Craig and I decided a most appropriate anniversary celebration would be a weekend return to Nürnberg where he proposed in July 1970! So to make the most of our time, we booked a 40 minute flight on Lufthansa and flew down early Saturday morning. Hoping to drop off our luggage at the Hotel Maritim at 0900, they said we could just check in! That was great, a few minutes to unwind from the fight and we were off exploring. We found a beautiful Nürnberg with a downtown pedestrian mall! Arriving early, it wasn't crowded, so we stopped for coffee and croissants and then continued to wander. We found the jewelery store (we think) where Craig bought the engagement ring! As the morning progressed, more people arrived downtown. We did some shopping, bought a few souvineers and then continued toward the Burg, the ancient fortress in the center of town. We stopped for lunch and then made our way to the Burg. In 1970, we stayed at a youth hostel right next door to the Burg, but today the hostel is under renovation. Guess we will have to return in another 10 years to see how it looks then!! Our other main goal besides seeing downtown was to visit the Hitler stadium area. We took the subway out there, misjudged our stop slightly, but ended up with a long leisurely walk through a beautiful park and an approach to the stadium from the back. We had a good flight back to Berlin on Sunday afternoon.
It was a totally lovely weekend. Craig asked me to marry him for another 40 years, so of course I said yes. I can't imagine my life if I hadn't married him 40 years ago, and we just have so many more things to enjoy together. I thank our Lord every day for bringing Craig and ultimately our children and our grands into my life! He has blessed me so much with my marriage and family!
Here are the photos from the weekend
