Britta in Berlin

My cousin Britta and I always enjoyed playing together at all our Bloomberg Family Holiday gatherings. We played most frequently the years (60-62) my family moved to Eden Prairie. I guess the drive to Chanhassen was quite easy from there and probably the age difference was a good fit during those years. Anyway her collection of Madame Alexander dolls was any girls dream! We have over the past 10 years we enjoyed seeing each other, her work with the Minnesota Historical Society has brought her annually to Washington DC for national level meetings. I was thrilled at her ability and willingness to come and visit us in Berlin this past weekend. As usual, we talked nonstop to catch up on all the family news! Did I mention Britta is the family historian? Craig was so patient to put up with the constant chatter and we all had a wonderful weekend. Here we are at her house, probably Christmas Day 1960.

We managed to pack in a full weekend to orient her to Berlin. We had a bus tour on Friday morning and included a walk through the Tiergarten. Then tickets to the Friedstast Palast to see YMA on Friday night. Saturday we toured the Charlottenburg Palace and immersed ourselves in German and Prussian history. Sunday we enjoyed worshipping together and dining with friends afterwards. After getting home we walked back up to Pariser Platz and also visited the Holocaust Memorial and Museum. Monday we took a day trip to Lutherstadt Wittenberg. The weather was pristine during her entire visit and we had a wonderful time together. Thanks Britta for coming. Here is the slideshow of photos!
