Berlin is such a city of Museums. Last summer when we arrived, we delayed seeing them to avoid the summer tourist crowds. Also, we had so much to do to get settled and just learn our way around the city. Two weeks ago we purchased an annual pass which covers many museums and pays for itself in about 4 visits. So then we went to the Neues Museum and saw the exhibition of antiquities from Egypt. Today we followed up with a visit to the Pergamon Museum. The exhibits are great. It does seem that archaeological teams from Berlin were very busy exploring these areas in the 1800s and bringing the antiquities back to Berlin. The Neues Museum was massively damaged during WWII, however the remodeled museum was reopened in 2009 and it is beautiful. Fortunately the aritfacts were all stored and preserved during the war. Once again, we are reminded how fortunate we are to be here in a reunited Germany and reunited Berlin as these two museums were in the Eastern sector, and such a short walk from our apartment. These are great activities to do as the thermometer continues to hover around the freezing point as the winter is hopefully winding down!
Another interesting note is that last night we enjoyed watching the 2004 movie, The Bourne Supremacy, as a friend had pointed out it was filmed in Berlin. We had the DVD, took it out and enjoyed the movie and the many scenes which were filmed in the area so close to where we live and are now so familiar to us. We just continue to enjoy our Berlin adventure! Here are a few photos from the museums.
